My New Blog
By Jay | November 21, 2007
I have decided to make some changes to Midlife Beginnings.
There are several reasons — all of them good.
When I started this blog six months ago I was in debt, overweight, and miserable about a number of things in my life.
Since then I’ve lost 15 pounds. And I’ve paid off a chunk of my debt. Even better, I just found out that my yearly bonus (which I get in December) will be enough to pay off a big chunk of my remaining debt. To make matters even better, my partner has sold his land in Brazil. He will finally be paying off the money he owes me, as well as paying down his own debt. We have been through a tough Summer, but some issues that we really needed to deal with have been dealt with, and I feel closer to him than ever. Thus, things are looking much better than they were 9 months ago when I started this blog. And I have been blogging less because of this.
One reason that I have been blogging less is that my blog has developed into something anonymous and very personal, and is thus difficult to integrate into my life. It is my confessional, where I go to find release, and then tell myself to “be a good boy.” I feel like I have to put on a different hat in order to write in this blog. I needed that before, but maybe not so much anymore.
I wrote several times that this blog was for me, but that I hoped my readers would gain some wisdom by watching me work out my issues. And putting my issues into a blog has been so much more helpful than writing them down in a journal; it has forced me to look at myself in a different way. It really helped. It did its job.
But it’s not what I need or want anymore.
I’ve deleted some of the more personal shit from my blog. From now on I will be blogging with less concern for anonymity, and my blog will be less self-centered and more outwardly directed, geared toward building a readership, geared toward business. I don’t plan to go quite so far as Zen Habits or Problogger, but I do want to take this blog to the next level. It’ll be strange to expose myself in the blogosphere, but I think it will be good for me as well. I’ll be writing about personal finance, self-improvement, entrepreneurship as well as whatever else moves me.
I hope some of you will stay on to check out my new blog.
