Adding a Paypal Donation Button to Your Blog

One thing I’ve always wanted to add to my blog was a “Donate” button.
Today I finally managed to set one up. It was easy to add. You need a paypal account and about 20 minutes to complete the necessary steps.
To add a button to a Wordpress blog, follow these instructions:
1. Sign in to your admin panel.
2. Go to the Presentation tab, and then select Widgets. Add a new text widget to your sidebar.
3. In a different browser window, go to PayPal and log into your account.
4. Click the Merchant Services tab (you need to have a PayPal merchant account to accept donations by credit card)
5. Under the “Create Button” headline (about a third of the way down the page), click “Donate.”
6. Where it says Donation Name/Service, type in a short name that relates to your site, as this is what donors will see when the PayPal payment page opens.
7. If you want to suggest a specific donation amount, put it in the “donation amount” box. Otherwise leave it blank.
8. Choose the button style that you want to appear on your your blog.
9. Click “yes” so that your payment button is encrypted
11. Click on “Create Button Now.” (You could click “View More Options” and set up a custom payment screen, but I did not do this.)
10. Copy the html code that appears.
11. Go back to your blog admin page and paste the code into your widget.
12. Click “Save Changes.”
13. View your blog to make sure the button works.
See, it’s easy. And it feels kind of like buying a lotto ticket. I’m not sure if anyone will ever donate, but it’s fun to think that the possibility exists!
