Another Find
By Jay | December 29, 2007
I wrote yesterday about how I believe that picking up pennies has helped open me to what the universe has to offer to me.
Today I got another gift.
Last weekend while doing my Christmas shopping I kept an eye out for off-season specials on barbeques. I had a Weber barbeque, but last Summer it rusted through and had to be thrown out. A new 22 1/2″ Weber goes for about $85, an amount that I think twice about before spending.
Anyway, M. and I were walking home from the subway, and what should we walk past? A perfectly good 22 1/2″ Weber barbeque on the sidewalk that someone was throwing away. It’s the end of the month and moving time in Brooklyn. Lots of people move to new apartments and throw out stuff they don’t need. The barbeque was in almost brand-new condition, and had a whole set of Barbeque utensils — tongs, spatulas, etc., inside. We took it home and I’m as happy as if I had found a hundred dollar bill on the sidewalk!
After all, a penny saved is a penny earned.
