Changing Directions
By Jay | January 1, 2008
So 2007 is done and 2008 is here.
Last night, for first year I can remember, I didn’t go out for New Years Eve. I didn’t even wait up until midnight. I was feeling a bit under the weather and didn’t want to go out. M. pulled a muscle in his back at the gym yesterday so he was in no mood to go anywhere either; he took some Advil around 9pm, but mistakenly grabbed the Advil PM and by 10pm was sleeping like a log. I was tired too, and was asleep before 11. How dull can two guys be?! My resolution for 2009 will be to have more fun with life – otherwise I’ll have to rename this blog the “Stingy Bastard” or “Frugal Curmudgeon” blog, or something similar.
But for this year I need to get down to business & clear up my financial issues.
When I think back over the past year I feel like I was treading water the whole time. But the truth is, I started 2007 $54,000 in debt and ended the year $48,000 in debt. This doesn’t sound great, but I did finish the year with 12.5% less debt than I started.
It a LONG time since I earned more in a year than I spent, so I see 2007 as the year I that pointed myself in a new direction. It was kind of like turning an ocean liner around – it takes a long time to execute the maneuver, but once the ship is pointing in the new direction it gains momentum quickly.
Here’s to a frugal and profitable 2008!
