Yearly Bonus
By Jay | January 6, 2008
I just checked my checking account balance and saw that my yearly bonus came in via direct deposit yesterday. And in one fell swoop my net worth just about doubled. Feels good! However I was not expecting taxes to eat up such a big chunk of it. Seems like a significantly higher percentage of my bonus went to taxes this year than last year.
Also, when I checked my 401k to make sure that the percentage of my bonus allocated to it was there, I saw that I lost almost 10% in equity over the past two weeks. I usually follow the markets closely, but have been avoiding the news for the past few days while on vacation.
Why does it seem like when we get a windfall, something always gets taken out on the other side?
