    Under the Weather

    By Jay | January 25, 2008

Something has been going around in my office since Thanksgiving. Just about everyone has come down with a bad cold over the past couple months except me. Until a couple days ago. Forgive my sporadic blogging, but I’ve been feeling crappy. It started in my sinuses, passed down through my throat and lodged in my lungs. Writing is an effort.

I had vacation days scheduled for today and Monday, so will have a few days to recuperate. My parents are in Florida for the Winter, and had asked if I could drive up to their house in Connecticut to make sure things are ok. I don’t mind getting out of the city for a long weekend, so I agreed. Right now I’m looking out the window by my computer at the moon rising over the horizon and shining through the bare trees onto the snow. This isn’t something I get to see in Brooklyn very often.

I’m up here alone for the weekend, too. M. left last night for Brazil, where he will be for the next three weeks. I’ve been looking forward to this time on my own.

But it always takes a couple days for me to get used to being alone in my parent’s house. I live in a brownstone in the city where there is always noise, people walking by, neighbors windows that I can see; it’s crowded. Here I can’t see or hear much of anything related to people: a few houses through the trees in the back yard, but that’s about it. It’s too quiet, and this makes me feel nervous.

Hard to believe I used to live alone in Vermont. I guess I’ve become a city guy through and through….

Sorry to hear your sick, but at least it’s at a time where you have the ability to get some extra rest…make sure you take advantage of that! Sleep, good eats, and lots of water will fix you right up.

Hope you feel better soon! The same thing has been happening in our office and I think the cold has mutated and people are getting sick for a second or third time. I’ve managed to fight it off for the time being - here’s hoping I can keep this trend going.
