More Sidewalk Finds

Posted by Jay on February 19th, 2008

I had my best sidewalk find yet yesterday.

I was walking home from the gym and came across another big box of books that someone was throwing away — mostly law school textbooks published within the past 3 years. I have found that recent textbooks sell for good money on the internet, and the box was about 6 blocks from my apartment; so I picked it up — all 50 or so pounds — and carried it home. When I got home I listed the books on Amazon and the text books listed at between $20 and $60. One of them listed at $110. The total list price of these books is almost $1000!

I didn’t get my hopes up, as it’s one thing to list books on Amazon and another to actually sell them, but when I woke up this morning, six of the law books had sold, and another 4 sold during the day!

I cannot believe that there are finds like this sitting out there on the sidewalk. And that there are
people who would throw $1000 worth of books away like nothing. Well, their loss is my gain.

Wealth-making tip to my readers: recently published textbooks sell very well on the internet. If you’re in a used bookstore and find a textbook that was published within the past couple years, take a chance & buy it if it’s less than $5. You may be amazed at what you can get for it on Amazon.

Nice find! One person’s garbage is another person’s treasure. In this case the disgruntled lawyer or ex-law student just wanted to get rid of the books and you are capitalizing on their actions.
