Blogging from Hartford
By Jay | March 20, 2008
I made it to Hartford tonight, and have begun my little mini-vacation. I managed to not look at the stock markets all day until just now, and the news was good. I moved some of my 401k money back into equities a couple days ago, and am starting to be glad that I did. I always find that, when it’s absolutely the hardest thing to do — buying stocks — it’s time to do exactly that. Well, enough about the markets….
The moon is almost full tonight. My parents did a renovation of their kitchen in the 1970’s, and have skylights and those modern windows of various shapes that you see in 1970’s houses. The trees are still bare here — not even starting to bud yet — and the moon is shining through all the skylights and strangely angular windows brightly.
My parents have an appliance called a Jenn-Aire grill. It’s about as 1970’s California as you can possibly get. But I love it! I stopped at Whole Foods and got some organic chicken breasts and veggies: eggplant, heirloom tomatoes and red peppers. I sliced them, drizzled them with olive oil, salt & pepper, grilled them up and had a wonderful feast. Amazing just how much pleasure the small things in life can give me. I read a great post over at Just Eat Your Cupcake the other day that summed up perfectly the little pleasures that give our lives meaning.
M. is in Brooklyn, and will be working tomorrow. But he’ll leave work around 3pm and take the train up to New Haven where I’ll meet him. I plan to make a fire in the fireplace for us tomorrow night. Another little pleasure that we don’t have in our apartment in New York.
I’m trying to decide what to do on Saturday — maybe a day trip to Providence or to Boston. I really feel like being out in nature, but it’s mud season here in New England, so probably best to leave that until later in the Spring.

I have a co-worker from Hartford whom I sent this blog post. He asks, “How is the weather?”
Hope you have a relaxing vacation. :)

Enjoy the vacation - I took a drive in the country this past weekend to see some family and it was beautiful.
I can’t wait to be able to have a fireplace and a bbq - thats one thing that city life takes away.
