Technical Difficulties

I just managed to wipe out my blog — 3 years of posts — vaporized!

I received a warning from Wordpress that I MUST upgrade my Wordpress account from 2.0, as this older version will be decommissioned soon.  So I followed the instructions, went to my admin page, and discovered that all my posts had disappeared.  I backed everything up a few weeks ago, so should be able to get most of them back, but it may take a while to figure out what I need to do.

What’s just as frustrating is that the new version of Wordpress, 2.8.1, is completely different from the version that I am used to.  I can’t find anything.  And they say newer is better…..Hah!

That happened to me as well… I stopped blogging for about 4 months because I didn’t have anything backed up, but then I went back at it December… I understand your frustration.. I will never use Wordpress because of it – I’m a blogspot person and I will stay that way.

Hi Jay, I use Joomla! and Blogspot because I “had” to use Wordpress sometime ago. Luckily I “had”, past tense. Wordpress was definitely very annoying.

I had the same feeling when one of my blogs was lost in a website renewal. All my posts were saved, though, but when I restored my blog I ommited two or three posts because they were related to an “ex”, and it wouldnt be classy if I re-posted them.

Good luck restoring your blog ;)

Well, I guess I’m glad I’m not the only one…I had been wondering, Dawn, what happened to your blog…you had invested a lot of time into that site and I was sad when it went down. I like the new one though.

The one thing I like about Wordpress is that I can host the blog on my own site (I do other web-related stuff) and can have my own URL. But after this experience I’ll be taking a look at Blogspot and Joomla.
