A Bad Week

by Jay on December 27, 2010

Well, I didn’t get as much writing done during my vacation week as I had hoped. Instead, I got very sick. It started on my first day of vacation—a tickly feeling at the back of my throat – and quickly grew from there. I’ve spent most of the last week in bed, huddled under a blanket. Last night around 4pm I came down with intense chills – thought it was psychological, having something to do with the blizzard raging outside – but by 6pm I was vomiting, which kept up for the entire night. The wind was howling outside, and going out to get some peptol bismul was out of the question, so I just suffered through it.

By this morning it broke: I was able to hold down some toast and water, and then an omellette and coffee. I am still a bit weak and sore, but feel better than I have for a week. Too bad I have to go back to work tomorrow…..

I don’t get sick very often – once every couple years – and never for so long as this time. But I’ve always found that there is something purifying about a short illness. I’ve hardly consumed a thing other than toast and water for a week now. I’ve had plenty of time to think, but my thoughts have been reduced to their most elemental state. I certainly haven’t been investigating possible business schemes!

But this brings me to the worst part of having been sick. I was planning to spend the week loading up on inventory to sell on Amazon. Had I been well, I estimate that I would have pulled in a good $3,000 to $4,000 last week. That money will be sorely missed. Plus, I’m sure last night’s blizzard will cost me a couple thousand more in lost inventory. Not good from a financial perspective.
